GENESSA -- TOYS!We don't care how old you are; everyone likes toys! GENESSA's Lionheart is amazed at Lady G's collection of stuffed animals, mostly Gund (because Gund is so squeezable!) How many stuffed animals does one grown woman need? Lady G, on the other hand, is astounded at the stuff with which Lionheart won't part. Most of Lady G's childhood "toys" were books. Most of them, after the age of seven, were not children's books, although she still has a few fond favorites from among the juvenile stacks. Lady G's mother became worried at the material eight-year-old G was reading, and bought her a Nancy Drew mystery to counteract what she considered the inappropriately adult fare (see Lady G's essays, BANNED BOOKS AND ERSATZ ENGLISHMENT for more information) and Lady G read that too, learning the words "amber" and "reincarnation" in the process. She was not, however, thus converted to exclusively children's reading matter, and continued to delve into her father's college Psychology texts. Be that as it may, G had a Princess Anne doll, eschewing the leggy Barbie; a collection of baseball cards from the late 1950s/early 1960s, mostly Phillies and Yankees; she collected marbles, mostly by winning them, as she was a sure shot, and still has one of the wonderful cracked-glass shooters she pocketed after one informal but glorious sidewalk match; and she had a rather pitiful but nonetheless dear bevy of odd stuffed animals, some green, some tomato-red, none terribly realistic, to her chagrin. The stuffed animals went to sock heaven, the baseball cards were given away, by Lady G's father, without her knowledge or permission, to the young son of a friend of his who susequently uttered antisemitie sentiments that ended their friendship as well as Lady G's chance of ever retrieving her hijacked baseball cards. She hasn't quite lost all her marbles, however! See pictures of a few treasures from Lady G's new stuffed animal collection here, purchase some for yourself here and indulge in some marbles here.
