GENESSA -- FOOD AND DRINK! Food, glorious food! Without food, we die, but food is so much more. Food doesn't just keep us alive; it enhances our lives. This is why we have gourmets, and even gourmands. Food plays a ritual role in our lives as well as a sustaining one, and in addition to the pleasure (sometimes a guilty pleasure!) it provides. Lady G is quite irreligious; Lionheart is not terribly religious but a believer. We both adore the cuisine of our own culture: Jewish food. Bagels with cream cheese and lox, matzaball soup, matza brei, halva, latkes, fried foods at Chanukah, hamentaschen at Purim, unleavened bread (matza) and other ritual seder items at Passover, honey for a sweet new year at Rosh Hashana, no food at all on Yom Kippur, and the restrictions of kashruth whether we follow them or not... all of this has been a part of our lives since we were born. We are not unaware of the yummy traditions of others, either: Christmas cookies and fruit cakes, Easter eggs and jellybeans, no meat on lent, fasting during the day at Ramadan... all of this contributes to who we are and how we perceive the world, not just how we perceive food. Lady G is overweight. Lionheart is underweight. Quite frankly, sometimes we feel like Jack Sprat and his wife, even though we don't always lick the platter clean. Not all of this has to do with food (exercise and heredity play their respective roles as well) -- and we are happy to say, food is not all about weight! We know people with eating disorders and we also know they are fighting bravely to conquer them. They have our love and support. As has been pointed out elsewhere, alcoholics (theoretically) can (and must) stay away from alcohol entirely. No one can simply stop eating (and live). Food is a necessity. As we've mentioned ourselves, food can be a total joy, as well! GENESSA can't compete with your local grocer for what sustains you, unless you have a specialized need. However, we think we can offer you a multitude of delights in a variety of categories (which will become more multitudinous as we progress). You may find some candy HERE.
