Q. HEY, WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED TO YOU? I'M MAD! WHY IS YOUR PAGE SO MESSY? HOW COME YOU'RE ALWAYS REVAMPING?

A. We apologize. Genessa's managing partner, Lady G, is chronically ill and things have been worse than usual. Her more silent partner, Lionheart, has not been involved in the making of the pages. He is stepping in and helping out but it's slow going. But it's going! In addition, GENESSA was hosted on AOL, which WITHOUT WARNING closed down its website hosting service on October 31, 2008, so we have to look for a new host, and due to an actual, literal lightning strike, the computer with the source code... oh now look, that's a long, long story and you can read all about it HERE, if you'd like to know the gritty details (and more).

You will remember years ago, we had our own product and because of Lady G's illness we could not fulfill orders. We did not take anyone's money; nobody lost any money. But people got mad because they tried to order stuff and we didn't respond. We can't blame them. We didn't do our part, and for this we apologize. BUT WE DO NOT ANY LONGER TRY TO SELL OUR OWN STUFF. We only sell through sponsors now, and they, not we, manage fulfillment. Therefore you will never fail to get your shipment, or get it late (or fail to have your order acknowledged) because Lady G is having a bad day or a bad month; we don't ship. We bring you the best sponsors we know for the best bargains we can find, and the retailer then takes the ball and runs with it. The ONLY consequence to you of this illness is how long it takes for us to get more sponsors to you. We promise. If you order something, YOU'LL RECEIVE IT, because all our stuff is sponsored now, and the sponsors are in charge of fulfillment. If one of them lets you down, let us know and they won't be our sponsors anymore!

In addition, this site is not JUST about selling stuff; there is a lot of good reading to be done here, more and more as time passes. Some of it is on the product pages, and some stands alone. Some is even offsite (most is here). Check out THE LIST OF WRITINGS to find out where all the stuff is that's NOT on the product pages. We also have some informational pages (yes, with sponsored ads as well); our ADOPTION RESOURCES page is a good example.

Q. HOW COME SOME OF THE PAGES OR LINKS DON'T WORK?

A. We're working on it. The site is huge and we don't just want to slap a bunch of ads on the category pages. We want as much as possible to choose the best products our sponsors offer and give you the information you need in order to decide whether or not to make a purchase. (The sponsors also replace ads often and we have to work hard to keep up with all the new offers -- especially if they've got coupons for free shipping or gifts for you!)

Q. WHY WHEN WE BUY STUFF FROM YOUR SPONSORS DO WE NOT GET TAKEN TO GENESSA'S SHOPPING CART? DO WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH A ZILLION SHOPPING CARTS?

A. Yep! (But it's very safe.) Sponsored products are presented by sponsors who do like to be paid directly and keep track of sales on their own.

Q: WHAT IF A SPONSOR RIPS US OFF? CAN YOU FIX IT?

A: First of all that is VERY unlikely to happen, as we check out each and every sponsor personally. HOWEVER, if it SHOULD happen, we want to know about it! We do not wish to do business with people who don't fulfill their promises, and we don't want to recommend such people to you, either. We have no legal recourse ourselves on your behalf if a sponsor fails you, so no, we can't fix your immediate situation, but we can fire the bad guys (we don't think we HAVE any bad guys but again, if you find otherwise, LET US KNOW!) Your legal recourse with such a retailer would be the same as with any other retailer on the net, no more, no less. You are in no more danger here than anywhere else, and actually in a good deal less danger because of our own precautions (did we mention we check each and every sponsor personally?)

Q. WON'T WE SAVE MONEY BUYING DIRECTLY FROM GENESSA'S SPONSORS INSTEAD OF THROUGH GENESSA? AFTER ALL, DON'T YOU MARK THE PRICES UP?

Nope. We don't. In fact sometimes you may even pay LESS shopping at GENESSA with our sponsors, because sometimes they send us special promotions (special prices, coupon codes, free shipping, etc.) to share with you. Sometimes those promotions are for anyone who visits them and sometimes the promotions are for our customers only! But you will never pay MORE here for sponsored products or services. We don't have permission to mark things up. The sponsors control the prices. We profit by a small commission which the sponsor offers, not by marking up their prices. If you have questions or comments about our sponsors' prices, we can't do much about them but we are curious and would like to know what you think; information is power. We like our sponsors and trust them but if you happen to have a bad experience with one of them PLEASE TELL US! If it isn't a fluke, we'll drop that sponsor like a hot potato.

Q: COULDN'T WE FIND THESE DEALS FOR OURSELVES BY SEARCHING Excite.com or some other search engine?

A: Maybe some of them (definitely not all). But it'd take you a while and you'd be pooped. We have gathered and organized everything for you already, plus, okay you're tired of hearing it but we checked out each and every sponsor personally! We try to get the best of the best for you and put it all in one place to save you both time and money.

Q. DOES GENESSA ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS?

A. Yes, most of our sponsors do. No, we ourselves don't; you don't pay us directly. We do accept donations through PayPal and you may, if you are inclined to be generous, use the button below:

Q. HOW DOES GENESSA GET PRODUCT TO THE CUSTOMER?

A. Since GENESSA now only sells sponsored product, each sponsor is responsible for fulfillment, and each one has its own delivery policies. Please check shipping costs and policies before finalizing any purchase. Remember, too, that GENESSA sometimes gets nice free-shipping (and other) coupons for you from the sponsors, so if you don't see such a thing for a sponsor from whom you wish to make a purchase, feel free to email GENESSA and ask. We'll look and see if we have a coupon code, and pass it on to you.

Q. What is GENESSA's return policy?

A. Good question! It's up to each sponsor. If you encounter a problem, let us know; we have no control over the sponsors but we DO have control over what sponsors we keep and which ones we lose. Anyone who mistreats our customers, other than by sheer flukey accident, is not going to remain a sponsor for long.

Q. MAY INTERNATIONAL BUYERS SHOP AT GENESSA?

A. We don't know the percentage, but we suspect MOST of our sponsors will ship internationally. SOME (very few) of our sponsors already ARE overseas, so please check to make sure they'll ship to the U.S., as well as what currency they accept.

Q: IF I CLICK BUY NOW ON ONE OF YOUR SPONSOR'S PRODUCTS ON GENESSA'S PAGES, ARE WE OBLIGATED TO BUY THAT PRODUCT OR CAN WE CHOOSE ANOTHER ONE?

A: Clicking BUY NOW on our pages does not obligate you to buy anything whatsoever. Furthermore, it should (in most cases) lead you to the retailers page for that very item so you can get more details, and from that page you can easily browse that retailer's entire site for anything else they offer. We encourage you to do so; we only present a product as an tiny example of what that retailer offers, and we think we've chosen some spiffy stuff to show you, but there is so much more. Browse away! And if you don't want to complete a purchase at that moment, that's cool too.

Q. WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG FOR YOUR PAGES TO LOAD?

A. Could be a few things: 1. your connection is slow, 2. your memory is low, 3. it's not your fault at all, but you've gotten to a page with lots of graphics. We tried to keep them to a dull roar but after all who wants to buy something sight unseen? Buying things on the web trades the ability to pick something up and touch it for convenience and speed. (You save on gas too, not to mention waiting in traffic only to get to the store and find out they're all out of whatever you were seeking.) We don't want you to trade away your ability to see what things look like too!

Q. THE PAGE I'M ON IS FINISHED BUT YOU'VE GOT BROKEN LINKS ON IT! WHOM SHOULD I TELL?

A. Us! Email us with details -- what page, what link, what happens when you click it. We'll fix it as fast as we can and we'll thank you for letting us know! But be sure to put something in the subject line of your email to let us know you really d have business with us and are not spamming. "BROKEN LINK ON GENESSA" would do the trick.

Q. WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I THINK ONE OF YOUR SPONSORS IS DISHONEST, OR IN SOME OTHER WAY BAD?

A. Well, if you just don't like what the sponsor sells, like green isn't your favorite color for a carburetor, or condoms don't do it for you, just don't buy the product. We sell almost all KINDS of stuff, and some of it might even offend you (we have singles clubs as well as baby furniture, after all -- and we can't please EVERYONE but we DO try to let everyone find what they're looking for, so please, if you don't like a product, don't get mad, just don't get the product!) But if the sponsor didn't send you what you ordered, or tried to convert you to a religion you don't belong to, or you tried to get the free item and were instead sent through a million pages of sign up for this sign up for that, and when do you get to the free product ANYWAY, or there is something else fishy going on, tell us, we'll look into it, and if we agree with you, we won't deal with that sponsor anymore. GENESSA has plenty of sponsors and doesn't need bad ones who inconvenience or rip off our customers!

Q. WHAT IS GENESSA'S PRIVACY POLICY? DO YOU COLLECT INFORMATION ABOUT ME? IF SO, WHAT DO YOU DO WITH IT? ARE YOU GOING TO SPAM ME? ARE YOU GOING TO GET INTO MY BANK ACCOUNT? ARE YOU GOING TO REMEMBER MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER? SHOULD I BE NERVOUS?

A. Relax. There is no need to be nervous. Here is GENESSA's Privacy Policy (and we're not even going to put it in small print!): .

For each visitor to our Web page, we are not sure what our web server automatically recognizes, because we use WebRing's Webspace as our web server and are not privy to their policies except as stated in their terms of service, which are too lengthy to reproduce here. They are available on WebRing's website. Among the things a web server MIGHT collect would be: the consumer's domain name and email address; other information we can't even imagine. We do not believe they collect your name, or anything about your offline life. We do not believe they collect any financial information about you. We are pretty sure they do not sell any of it. We know we don't! We at GENESSA receive none of this information. You can buy a ton of stuff and we will never know who you are unless you send us a nice note saying "Hey we bought some stuff from you," in which case we then have your email address, which we will not abuse. If and when we restart our monthly newsletter, you will not automatically receive it just because you wrote to us once. You would have to request it.

We may use your comments to help us decide what to do with the website to make it more pleasing, useful and attractive to you.

Regarding our sponsors. We place ads and/or make available product and/or services for sale, on our site, on behalf of these sponsors. (We hope our taste and selection please you.) The sponsors may record, or have recorded for them (not by us; we wouldn't have a clue) how many people have seen their ads, how many people clicked on them, how many people made purchases as a result of the clicks. They may use cookies to keep track of who visited from GENESSA and who visited from other sites (and they may tell GENESSA some of this, but not reveal individual information). The purpose for this is so that GENESSA can be credited with referrals when applicable. GENESSA does not use any cookies. Lady G bakes them and Lionheart eats them, and that's all we have to say about our own personal involvement with cookies. We are given to understand that most of our sponsors will use TEMPORARY cookies for the purpose of tracking referrals, which means if you click on one of our sponsors' ads today but don't make a purchase until next week, we still get credit for sending you there. If you register with any of our sponsors' (or anyone else's, for that matter) sites, you may have to deal with their cookies. GENESSA has never seen one of the sponsors place a PERMANENT cookie; most of the sponsors tell GENESSA how long their cookies will last, so we will know how long you remain GENESSA's customer in the eyes of the sponsor. None of this is dangerous, but if you don't like websites to remember you when you visit, you might not want to shop with GENESSA's sponsors (and that'd be a pity, because they sell such NICE things!) or, more reasonably, you might just want to clear your cache and delete cookies on a regular basis. Of course this means GENESSA might not get the commission due us, and we wouldn't be terribly happy about that, and these are not bad cookies, really they're not!

You may contact them regarding the information they do or don't collect about you, if you view or click on their ads, or descriptions of products or services, at GENESSA. If GENESSA didn't think this was all quite innocent, and normal marketing, and NOT destined to result in your being spammed, or your privacy betrayed, we would not deal with these folks. If you think otherwise, please let us know so we can reconsider our relationship with these entities. (We've been dealing with both of them for over a decade and have never had a single complaint about them. Either you guys are shy or these companies are respectable.)

From time to time, some companies make the e-mail addresses of those who access their sites, or make customer lists, available to what they CLAIM are other reputable organizations whose products or services they think you might find interesting. GENESSA DOES NOT DO THIS. You do not have to opt out of this because there is nothing out of which to opt. We simply don't believe in selling you, exchanging you or otherwise betraying your privacy. Since we stopped selling our own product, we don't have any of that stuff anyway, except in the guestbooks, and we still have no intentions of selling any information about you to anyone, PERIOD.

If you supply us with your postal address or any other contact information online we will only use it for the purpose for which it was given. (We actually don't need it since we don't ship anything.) You will not be spammed, online or offline, on the phone or in any other way.

We suppose it is not TOTALLY inconceivable that, from time to time, we may use customer information for new, unanticipated uses not previously disclosed in our privacy notice. We can't even imagine, but life is strange. If our information practices change at some time in the future, we will post the policy changes here and include them in our newsletter, if any. If they're heavy-duty changes we'll email those of you who've left us such contact information, too.

Upon request we provide site visitors with access to whatever information we've got on them. It's probably slim but we'll share, as long as you can prove you're you, and not your mother-in-law!

Enforcement: If you feel GENESSA is not following our state information policy, we'll be totally shocked but do let us know, and you may also fee free to contact the DAM's Committee on Ethical Business Practices at mgoldberger@the-DMA.org.. Other good places to contact are your state or local chapters of the Better Business Bureau, on- or offline; your state or local consumer protection office; or the Federal Trade Commission, by phone at 202-FTC-HELP (202-382-4357) or at http://www.ftc.gov/ro/romap2.htm. If someone scams or defrauds you, your state Attorney General's office will also have information for you about where to complain, and may even take the complaint.

Q. WHO DESIGNED THIS WEBSITE ANYWAY?

A. With Lionheart's input, Lady G did. We have no one to blame but ourselves. Feel free to praise us lavishly.

Q. WHO ARE YOU GUYS ANYWAY? WHAT'S WITH CALLING YOURSELVES LADY G AND LIONHEART?

We are Gail M Feldman and Richard L Cohen. Gail used to have a site called Lady G, and the name stuck. GENESSA is Gail's Hebrew name. She was given this name before she was even given her English name of Gail. The name might or might not even be Hebrew (Lady G heard it wasn't, but then recently heard it was after all) but her mother apparently thoguht it was, anyway, so it's her Hebrew name. Richard, in Gail's opinion, has a lion-sized heart and the English king of that name was called Richard Lionheart, so it seemed natural to bestow upon GENESSA's Richard that accurate albeit glorious handle. Besides, it's FUN!
