GENESSA -- CHESS SETS!Lady G's late Uncle Irv, a brilliant physicist, was also once chess champion of Philadelphia. It took Lady G a number of years to figure out that Uncle Irv probably LET her beat him at a game when she was nine years old; she just isn't all that good... although she did beat Lionheart the first time she played him. A few moments after that game ended, the lights went out, and Lady G and Lionheart spent some time scrambling for candles and matches to sit out the power failure. Ever after, Lionheart blamed his losing game on that blackout! Go figure. Some years before Lady G and Lionheart met, Lady G was in Tintagel, England, having walked over from a nearby village, across the clifftops, through partitioned fields of cows, to see the remains of King Arthur's castle. Finding herself in the little High Street not far from the remains, she was entranced by a particular chess set in one of the shops: the King Arthur set of course. She purchased it despite its being alightly beyond her means, and despite its not coming with a board. Several days later, Lady G was in London and decided to take a little cruise down the Thames to Greenwich, where she knew a large flea market was in progress. What do you think she purchased there? Of course! A lovely chess board, with sides (to keep the pieces from tumbling off the board of nudged by an overexuberant pet, for example), all browns and ivories, inlaid with mother of pearl (or something like thereunto). (Actually, it rather resembles, while not being identical to, the Fortress Chess Board featured on this page!) The set was now complete! If you're not on your way to Tintagel or Greenwich (nor into the past, for it's now been a decade and a half since Lady G purchased her particular goodies, and the chess board may well have been one of a kind anyway) perhaps you can find something meaningful and pleasurable to you on this page. We certainly hope so! Note please that in addition to chess sets you may find here chess tables (and chairs), chess timers, chess instruction, chess software and (soon) chess books. About the design: We are aware that some of the product description kind of trails down in a narrow vertical column that is a bit hard to read. We had to choose between making the picture smaller so the writing would normalize or widering our column so you had to scroll around to see anything, or leaving it as it is. We figure... the picture is going to tell you whether or not you're interested in reading about it, and when you click BUY you'll see the description again anyway, which reminds us, come to think of it, to remind you that clicking BUY does not obligate you to buy anything but merely brings you to a page with more information, as well as access to the sponsor's entire stock. In addition, for each sponsor, GENESSA only shows a selection that in most cases does not even come close to representing all that sponsor has to offer in this category, and that some sponsors offer items in other categories as well. Some sponsors specialize in games; others don't specialize at all, so you may end up buying a chess set, a pair of stockings and some dishes! You just never know!
