GENESSA's Lady G has dabbled in the visual arts. She began painting in oils just to use up leftover paint-by-number supplies without being restricted by, well, you know, those lines (which never amounted to what she wanted to paint anyway). Paint-by-number always reminds Lady G of her late Uncle Frank, whom no one but his wife, Molly, liked, and who seemed not to like anyone else either -- especially children. Frank painted by number and proudly displayed his handiwork in the basement rec room. Lady G was not, she swears, sucking up to Uncle Frank when she complimented his paintings, which were not so hot even for paint-by-numbers. She was just trying to make him feel good; he always looked so sad and grumpy. He smiled when she praised his masterpieces, but still wouldn't kiss anyone (he always said he had a cold).
Lady G switched to acrylic when she realized that it dried faster than oil. Her motivation was not impatience; it's just that with cats around, slow-drying oil always ended up with a patina of fur.
