We all know all know and love the Doctors & Nurses of Rampart. But, what if they had gone into other professions. What would they be doing and what would their life be like? Write about any of the hospital staff members, and make it clear who it is.
This is a special challenge. The challenge is to write a story where "EMERGENCY!" crosses over with EITHER "LARAMIE" OR "WAGON TRAIN," the Coop Years.
"KELLY BRACKETT & HIS HEROES FROM THE PAST." by NEEBEESHAABOOKWAY.
Jury duty is a civic responibility, but a person can get out of it. Work on the premise that they could'nt get out of it. I want stories about the hospital staffers about what they go through on jury duty. Be clear who you're writing about.

This idea was suggested by Michelle Gussow. In the episode "DILEMMA", Student Nurse Sharon Walters is a total klutz around Dr. Brackett until Dixie talked to her. The question is, what did Dixie tell her about Dr. Brackett?
BRACKETT-ITIS by Robin R. Neher.
In the episode "PRESTIDIGITATION", Dr. Brackett's dad has to have surgery. What is going through Dr. Brackett's mind as he watches the surgery on his dad?
Near the end of the premier episode, Dixie asked Dr. Brackett what he would do if the man died and the bill didn't pass. The challenge here is to answer that question.

In "VIRUS", Roger arrived in time to help save two main characters. The challenge here is to write a story about what would happen in the aftermath of "VIRUS" if Roger DIDN'T get there in time.
This is a unique kind of challenge. In this one, you'll have a title to work with. Write a story to go with the title. The title is "CHILL OF AN EARLY FALL." Deathfic ok for this challenge.
"CHILL OF AN EARLY FALL" by AJM
This challenge is inspired by a headline in today's local paper. "Local Nurses Vote To Authorize Strike At 12 Hospitals." What would things at Rampart be like if the nurses went on strike?
This challenge was suggested by Michelle Gussow. In the premier episode, it was mentioned that Dixie was in Korea at a field hospital and that Dr. Brackett did his residency at Mayo. Describe what either one may have experienced during that time.
Write about a character's past life. Be clear who you're writing about. Remember, the people they interact with in this life, are people they've interacted with in past lives. They may not be the same gender in the past lives that they are now, or the same race they are now. This should be interesting.
This was suggested by Linda McNair. Write a story where Dixie gets leukemia or something where she needs a donor. No one in her family is a match. Kel or Joe matches. What happens? What happened before?
This is 1 of 3 challenges suggested by Amber Tyller. Write a story where one of the hospital staffers contracts a disease from a needlestick accident and the symptoms can hide for years. The only restriction is no deathfic.
This is the 2nd of the 3 challenges suggested by Amber Tyller. A deep, dark secret from Kel's past is revealed. This can be ANYTHING you want.
THE "OTHER" PANCHO VILLA By Neebeeshaabookway
This is the last of the 3 challenges suggested by Amber Tyller. This involves a case of mistaken identity. One of the hospital staffers is missing, then mistakenly reported to be dead. Have fun, but don't forget the reunion.
One of the doctors is falsely accused of molesting a patient! What happens? Tell us about it.
In "PRESTIDIGITATION" Kel & his dad talk. They don't talk about Kel's mom. The question is "Why didn't they talk about her?"
A special Mother's Day Challenge! Tell us what the mom's of the doctors and nurses of Rampart are or were like.
In the pilot ep, Dix asks Kel how he managed to collaborate on his loneliness. His answer was 'Hid behind my work. Never had time I said. Never took time is what I did.' Which leads me to the conclusion he has things that he regrets. What does he regret either doing or not doing?
In "LOOSE ENDS", Kel was in a bad accident. In the other car was a litle girl. She forgave Kel. What I want to know is what he would've done if she hadn't. How would he react to that?
CHALLENGE 21-LOOSE ENDS by Melisa Read.
This challenge was suggested be Helene Weinberger. Where was Kel during the episode "NUISANCE?" Did he find out what happened to John? If so, how did he react?
This challenge was also suggested by Helene Weinberger. There are 2 unanswered questions about the "VIRUS" episode. How did Kel catch it? and, Why didn't Joe catch it? You can answer one or both questions.
DEADLY CHESS GAME By Neebeeshaabookway
This is the third challenge suggested by Helene Weinberger. In the episode "HOW GREEN WAS MY THUMB," Kel had to operate on a guy that had a live grenade lodged in his abdomen. What went through his mind during that run? You can tell it at any point from the time the initial call came to the hospital to when the surgery was over.
IT COMMANDS OUR ATTENTION By Neebeeshaabookway
This is the fourth challenge suggested by Helene Weinberger. In the episode "HARD HOURS," Joe Early's surgery went well. The questions here are What if it hadn't gone well? What if it had been Kel instead? You can answer either question.
In the episode "PUBLICICITY HOUND" Kel clashed with a tycoon & Joe was able to smooth things over. The question here is What if Joe wasn't able to smooth things over? What would've happened?
NO REAL WINNERS by Robin R. Neher.
In the episode "BOTULISM" Kel diagnosed botulism BEFORE the test results came in. What if he'd been wrong?
This is a sad one. Kel's dad dies. You determine cause and speed. The challenge is to tell us how Kel deals/copes with this loss.
This is a fun one. Write a story based on the following sentence: "Plaid shirts and striped pants rarely make a positive fashion statement." Have fun with this one.
PLAIDS, STRIPES & KEL'S PERSONAL RIGHTS. by Neebeeshaabookway
"It's never too late to learn to play the piano." Apply this to any hospital staffer EXCEPT Dr. Early. He can be the teacher if you want. The person taking the lessons doesn't want anyone to know right away. Who's taking the lessons and why?
Near the end of the episode "DETAILS", Dr. Early was in Ginger's roomtalking to her about sticking to her 1800 calorie and no cheating. Then she looked at him and asked "Did anyone ever tell you you have sexy eyes?"
Of course the good doctor blushed and almost ran from the room when Dixie entered. Then Dixie said she could probably arrange for Ginger to work in the hospital day care.
So, the challenge. Dixie manages to get Ginger the job at the hospital. She gets to see a lot more of Dr. Early. Joe becomes less shy around her. They start to talk and share coffeee, lunch, etc.... but what else??????? That's the challenge!! Do they find love? or just a friend?
Contributed by Gage's Babe.
This challenge is from Robin Neher.
"One of my favorite episodes of "Emergency" was "SURPRISE" in which Dixie suffers injuries after tangling with a shoping cart, but they never really explain clearly just how Dix was hurt, nor how she got to Rampart afterwards. Write about how Dix and the shopping cart tangled and how she got to Rampart afterwards. You can also write about how Dix felt about being a patient instead of a nurse at Rampart. Have fun, Robin.
This challenge was inspired by a discussion in the RFFC. It was wondering what the hospital staffers would be doing today. The challenge is to answer that question.
Find similarities in the relationships of Kel & Dixie to that of Marshall Dillon & Miss Kitty.
During the series run, I found 2 possible romantic triangles.
The first is Kel-Dixie-Joe. The other was Dixie-Joe-Ginger. Pick one and tell us who the person in the middle would choose and why.
Why is Kel Brackett afraid to commit to a relationship? What in his past has made him that way? Remember, NO SLASH!
This is inspired by a news headline. "Robots Help Enhance Doctors' Bedside Manner." Which of the doctors would these robots be most helpful to?
This challenge was submitted by Michelle Gussow. From the episode "How Green Was My Thumb." When Kel is going to perform the infield surgery on the man with the grenade inside him, he asks Dr. Morton if he'll help without telling him with what. Morton agrees. CHALLENGE: What is the conversation in the ambulance between Brackett and Morton where Kel has to let Morton know to what they are heading? What is Morton's reaction? Is Kel more nervous than he's letting on?
Describe a day in tbe life of any hospital staffer. Be clear on who it's about and keep them in character. This idea came from Evelyn Weinberger.
In the same vein as the above challenge, do a "This Is Your Life" for any of the hospital staffers. Same rules as the previous challenge.
