The Last Supper

"And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me." In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you."

-Luke 22:19, 20

I've thought about Jesus's words in this passage. I thought about what the body and blood might represent for us. Here is my translation of Jesus's words that night.

"This is my body given for you. I know there will be times when you will not want to reach out to someone and love them. For those times, I give you my hands. There will be times when your feet are tired of running the race I have called you to run. For those times, I give you my feet. I know there will be times when you will want to cut someone down instead of lifting them up. For those times, I give you my tongue. I know you will have times when your earthly eyes will not be able to see a purpose in the pain. For those times, I give you my eyes. I know there will be times when you don't want to listen to anyone. For those times, I give you my ears. I know there will be times when you don't feel strong enough to finish the task. For those times, I give you my strength. These gifts I give you will always be ready for you to take. You don't have to take them if you don't want to, but if you do, remember all that I have done for you."

"In the same way, he took the cup saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. I know there will be times when your love for my children will be weak. In those times, let my love flow through you. I know there will come times when sadness and despair will seem to overwhelm you. In those times, let my joy flow through you. I know there will be times that seem so hectic, you could lose your mind. In those times, let my peace flow through you. I know times will come when you won't want to slow down. In those times, let my patience flow through you. These gifts, also, will always be ready to take. You are under no obligation to take them. If you do, though, please remember all that I have done for you. Remember that no matter what, I will always love you."
