    Richard's Health

In case you haven't noticed, I have both a weight problem and I am follicularly challenged. The baldness doesn't bother me. But the weight does affect my health and longevity. There are two things I am doing to combat my weight problem:

    1. Exercise

I found a good karate dojo which I have been attending since March 1998. It is very family oriented and not at all militaristic. You can learn at your own pace and it is well suited for children and adults. It is the High Park Martial Arts Academy. I highly recommend the martial arts. It improves your physical health, mental health, co-ordination and reflexes. Ironically, even though many people think of martial artists as violent people I have found that the opposite tends to be true. Martial artists usually tend to be less aggressive, probably because they are more self-confident and self-assured. I guess it is some kind of weird "zen" thing *G*.

I also practice Tai Chi. It is a very nice complement to the karate.

    2. Diet
    3. I have battled my weight since High School. Now, in my 40's, I have found a way of eating that allows me to lose weight and still eat full meals without depriving myself. It is called the "Carbohydrate Addicts Diet". I am following the newer program from the book called the "Carbohydrate Addict's Lifespan Program". I have been on this plan since March 08, 2000 and all I can say is that it works. I personally have lost over 40 lbs since I started last year. And it really is very easy! And it is working not just for me, but for many people. If you are interested, then useful links can be found at:

    The Kirchknopf Family Name

The family name is Germanic and comes from the Burgenland region of Austria which is part of present day Austria and Hungary. My father (Ferdinand Kirchknopf) emigrated from Hungary in the 1950's from the tiny village of Agendorf, Hungary (Agfalva in Hungarian) which is located on the Austrian/Hungarian border just southeast of Vienna.

Information on the Burgenland can be found at the Burgenland Bunch Homepage.
